Manage your blood sugar with nutritional and exercise treatment. Use nutritional supplements when needed. That way, you will avoid the risks of pharmaceuticals.

Would you give your kids Twinkies for breakfast? Would you eat Twinkies for breakfast? I didn’t think so. Check out the Environmental Working Group article on breakfast cereals. The ten worst contain half of their weight as sugar. Why don’t you open the bag of granulated sugar and feed a few tablespoons to your child. While we know that nutrition is the foundation of good health, we are increasingly aware of the damage that refined carbohydrates do to our bodies. They raise cholesterol and triglycerides, which increases risk of heart attacks. They increase inflammation in the body and increase the risk of heart disease, strokes, cancer, and Alzheimer’s disease, which are all caused 90% by inflammation. Refined carbohydrates like sugar and bread and pasta increase the risk of diabetes which causes premature aging in the form of heart attacks, strokes, kidney failure, blindness, Alzheimers–all at an earlier age. So don’t throw your arms in the air in dispair. Go to this article and find out what are the best cereals for you and your family and start using them.

Time for my latest update. Things continue to be good with me. Dr. Sklar continues to tweak the hormones to just the right amount. My weight loss has maintained, however I don’t feel like I have made as much progress on lowering my percentage of body as I would like, but I think that is because I don’t do as well working out in the heat. After slacking for a month, I have rededicated myself to getting back to my regular workouts. I did find a product that I have been using that I would like to share with you. If anyone is interested in a protein supplement that has no added sugar, I have been using something called Whey Cool. You can buy it over the internet (and at the Sklar Center), and I use it on my oatmeal or in fruit smoothies. As I have been on this program for nine months now, I again want to thank Dr. Sklar for her help!

Time for my quarterly update, and it brings more exciting news! I mentioned in my last blog that I had to buy new pants for work because mine were all too big. I have had to do that again in the past 3 months! People at work have all mentioned how good I look. They seem to be in awe that I can keep up the schedule I do and still have the energy to work out 5 or 6 days a week. I just had my blood drawn, and all the numbers are coming along. In fact, my cholesterol is in the normal range for the first time in 4 years! My goals for the second half of my year are to get my cholesterol down even lower and work on my percentage of body fat. Although I feel that I am finally at a good weight, my percentage of body fat has not gone down like I had hoped. Dr. Sklar has suggested adding more protein into my diet and working on intensity of my workout, so I will be trying to make those changes in the weeks to come and will report on my progress in another couple months.

Sexual desire is women is a very complex issue. A recent study showed that over 1/3 of women don’t want to have sex. Very few get treated, however. First, a woman has to be willing to talk about it. Also, a doctor has to be willing to ask about it and hear about it. Most doctors are at a loss when dealing with sexual problems in women. For women with hormonal changes as the cause of low libido, a bioidentical hormone program that includes the use of testosterone and DHEA can resolve the problem. Sometimes, a medication such as an anti-depressant will cause a decrease in sex drive and impair sexual function. Also there are the complex emotional and psychological issues that play a role in sexual function, especially for women. If you are having a problem, find a doctor who specializes in women’s sexual function treatment and bioidentical hormones.

These guidelines ensure that employers are aware that poor working conditions can aggravate symptoms. Poor ventilation, lack of access to cold drinking water, and high temperatures can make symptoms worse. Menopause represents a significant life passage. Programs for symptom relief such as the Hormone Restoration Program at the Sklar Center can make this passage go so much more smoothly. Treating menopause will definitely make a happier work place for menopausal women and the people who work with them. Read more…
